Idrante – Hydrant

L’attuale Vigile del Fuoco ha origini antichissime.
Oltre 2000 anni fa (nel 6 d.C.) Augusto istituì a Roma il corpo dei  “Vigiles Urbani”.
Compito di questi “Vigiles” era quello di assicurare la vigilanza notturna delle strade e proteggere la città dagli incendi.

Compito che  i Vigili del Fuoco compiono ancora oggi grazie anche a una fitta rete di idranti (come quello nella foto) sparsi in tutta la città.

The current fireman has ancient origins.
Over 2000 years ago (in 6 AD) Augustus established in Rome the corps of “Vigiles Urbani” (“watchmen of the City”).

The task of these “Vigiles” was to supervision streets and protect the city against fire.

Task that the Fire Brigade do today thanks to an extensive network of fire hydrants (as the one pictured) scattered throughout the city.
